JACKSBORO, Texas (KAUZ) – The Jacksboro Police Department recommends that insured Jack County property owners who are seeking repairs or renovations should work their questions through their insurance agent.

Residents are also encouraged to confirm a contractor is registered or has a permit through the city before moving forward. The Better Business Bureau noted that scammers will target disaster victims in need of home repairs.

Scammers will often use high pressure sale tactics to make a person contract them on the spot. The BBB suggests taking a contractor’s information to research their legitimacy.

“We have an online portal called BBB scam tracker, which makes it really easy for them to give us all the details and report that scam to the BBB,” Monica Horton, President & CEO of the BBB of North Texas, said.

Bbb.org includes ways to access information about a particular contracting company, along with tips and information on how to avoid being scammed.

Contractors are able to register with the city at Jacksboro City Hall, located a 112 W. Belknap.

Here’s the Jacksboro Police Department Hotline for any questions: (940) 567-2259.
