SPEEDWAY, Ind. — This weekend, the Greatest Spectacle in Racing is giving way to the biggest spectacle in household decor. Roughly 800 property owners signed up for the Indy 500 Spectacle of Households contest, but only 33 will earn.
With the Indy 500 parade cancelled this year, Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) officers requested homeowners to decorate their residences and front yards like floats. The ideal 33 houses will have Indy 500 motorists demonstrate up at their doorstep this weekend.
“You know if you embellished your property like that you are a race admirer, so to have a driver display up at your home a day in advance of the Indy 500 to say, ‘Thank you’ — that by itself is a quite major treat,” explained IMS President Doug Boles with a smile.
Veronica Shook is hoping to be just one of the preferred handful of. She modeled her entrance lawn soon after American Dairy Affiliation floats she had witnessed in prior Indy 500 parades.
