INDIANAPOLIS — A housing discrimination criticism filed by a Black Indianapolis property owner alleges that appraisers’ valuations of her residence far more than doubled just after she removed objects that identified her race and requested a white male close friend to be there during an appraisal.

Carlette Duffy and the Reasonable Housing Middle of Central Indiana submitted problems with the federal government, alleging appraisers violated fair housing rules. The appraisers, the complaints said, purposely utilized similar sale prices that have been unfair and racially determined.

Just one appraiser named in the issues denied discrimination performed a role, though other individuals and firms involved in the appraisals did not react to The Associated Press’ requests for comment.

In a statement to the newspaper, Boston explained: “My appraisal reviews are info-driven. I could care much less about culture or sexual orientation. It is all about bricks and sticks and dust.”
